Documents for European citizens - Family Members

 

For accompanying children, spouses and officially registered partners: 

  • Copy of passport
  • Copy of marriage/partnership certificate**
  • Copies of children's birth certificates**

 

For children, spouses and officially registered partners who will be joining you later:

Complete the EDH document
Change of family and personal situation.

Please attach :

  • Copy of passport of family member
  • Copy of your marriage/partnership certificate**
  • Copies of children's birth certificates**

** An Official translation into French is required for family members taking up residence in France (cf. official Note Verbale).

An Official translation into English, German, French or Italian is required for family members taking up residence in Switzerland.

Please note : if you come with children aged 20 to 25 years and want them to benefit from a CERN family access card, a Declaration with a view to the issuance of a CERN family card (Access to the CERN site for the children (aged 20 to 25 years) of associated members of the personnel) must be provided. More information.

 

Work and residence permits for children, spouses and officially registered partners:

Under certain conditions, spouses/partners and dependent children may be entitled to receive a French card or a Swiss card.

 

Information regarding other family members (i.e. non-official partners; direct relatives in the ascending line):

While other family members may be eligible to receive a type "H" legitimation card under certain conditions, it is important to note that:

1. Persons who require a visa to reside in Switzerland must obtain a favourable response from the authorities before applying for their visa and coming to Switzerland. 

2. Holders of an “H”-type legitimation card are subject to ordinary Swiss law, in particular to legislation concerning social security and tax.
