Not all areas of the CERN site are safe for wearers of active implanted medical devices. To check a specific situation, please contact the EP Departmental Safety Officer.
To change the email address displayed for you in the Phonebook, please follow the steps outlined in the dedicated Service Portal Knowledge Base article.
Access cards are mandatory for children over the age of two.
It is possible to get an access card for babies but it is not a requirement.
If you are taking up residence in Switzerland with your minor child (under the age of 18) and you are not accompanied by the other parent, you must provide the Users Office with an official document stating that the child is in your custody or, depending on the case, with the written consent of the other parent. CERN will then attach the document to the application forwarded to the Swiss Mission. The same rule applies to a minor who is the child of your spouse/partner and if you, as principal beneficiary, are not the father/mother. Refer to item 2.3 of the Swiss Mission's guidelines
It is not possible for the Users Office to register persons other than those working within experiment collaborations on the CERN site, such as business managers, as Users. Team Leaders can nevertheless forward reports extracted from CET to the persons managing invoices on their behalf at the institute.
The Users Office has received feedback from Users who confirmed that they could open accounts and receive their allowances through direct banks operating exclusively online (e.g. Revolut). As a "CH" IBAN may not be accepted by CERN for the processing of claims/payments, it is generally possible to obtain another type of IBAN (e.g. "GB") through direct online banks.
If you have successfully been pre-registered as a future User by your Team Leader via EDH PREG and the online booking system does not let you book a room at the CERN Hostel, you may book a room by writing directly to:housing@cern.ch. Make sure to specify your future status (User) as well as the start date of your assignment at CERN in the email. When filling-out the Individual Booking form, you may indicate your Team Leader or Experiment Secretariat contact person as CERN Guarantor.
Members of the CERN personnel are entitled to freedom of access to, and residence on, French territory without visa charges and without delay under Article XI § 2 of the Status Agreement between CERN and France dated 13 September 1965, as revised on 16 June 1972.
If you think you were wrongly charged for visa fees by the French embassy/consulate competent for your usual place of residence, please contact the Users Office.
